Why Whey Protein Prices Have Increased — And Why We’re Being Honest About It

At The Func Lab, we believe in one thing above all — transparency. So when our whey protein prices change, you deserve a clear explanation.

This isn’t just about us. It’s a global shift.

Whey protein prices have surged worldwide.

What once cost around ₹700 per kg for WPC (Whey Protein Concentrate) is now reaching ₹2600 per kg. Similarly, WPI (Whey Protein Isolate), which earlier cost around ₹1400 per kg, is now crossing ₹3400 per kg.

Since whey is the core raw material, this directly impacts the final product.

So what’s driving this?

First, protein is no longer just for fitness. It’s gone mainstream — from coffee chains to packaged foods — increasing demand across industries.

Second, there’s a new layer of demand coming from medical use. People on GLP-1 medications are being advised higher protein intake, putting additional pressure on supply.

Third, the issue isn’t milk — it’s processing. Turning whey into isolate requires specialised infrastructure, and that capacity hasn’t scaled with demand.

India feels this even more because we rely heavily on imports. When global prices rise, we feel it immediately.

Before increasing prices, we did everything we could — renegotiated with suppliers, optimised logistics, and absorbed costs internally. But beyond a point, it wasn’t sustainable.

Here’s what we won’t do:

We won’t dilute our protein.
We won’t add fillers.
We won’t reduce what you get per scoop.

If you see brands holding prices in a rising-cost market, it’s worth asking how.

This isn’t just about pricing. It’s about trust.

And we’ll always be upfront with you.
